Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013

Award season is in high gear, darlings!  The trends at this year’s Screen Actors Guild awards were:  black (big surprise, and frankly, not very seasonal); strapless gowns; mermaid gowns; and side-parted, mermaid hair.  Honestly, none of these ring my bell, and while I thought most everyone looked ‘nice,’ I was expecting a bit more glitz and glam (see the Golden Globes).  That being said, here are my favorites from last night.

Amanda Seyfried

Boy, this was the silhouette last night:  strapless, mermaid gown and mermaid hair!  I think Amanda did it best.  I love the navy blue color of her dress, and I know it sounds silly, but that Lorraine Schwartz necklace made all the difference.

Kerry Washington

The more I looked at this, the more I liked it.  Rodarte rarely does it for me, but I really like the shape of this on Kerry, and loved the fact it was white/silver in a sea of black.

Michelle Dockery

Speaking of black, this woman got it right.  Normally cut-outs in a gown would be something that I hate, but I love all of this:  the sheer panels and the sleeveless-ness  really lighten this dress up, and she looks beautiful.

January Jones

Oh, J Jo!  I love how striking she looks, even with the pompadour hair.  I also appreciate the risks she takes on the red carpet:  she may be a ‘conventionally’ pretty woman, but unless she’s in Mad Men drag, she rarely dresses like one.

Viola Davis

I find it fascinating to see the runway look compared to the ‘real life’ (as if the red carpet were real life, but you know what I mean!) look.  There were a few other women in this green/seafoam/teal color story last night (as there were at the Golden Globes), but I really thought Viola looked amazing in it.  Plus, I am in love with her hair!

Sally Field

No one else was in this lovely violet shade, and I thought she looked happy and radiant.  Guess that’s what happens when you play opposite Daniel Day-Lewis, huh?

Busy Philipps

When my husband saw that Ms. Philipps was pregnant, he cracked, “Looks like Michelle Williams is going to be a father again!”  You have to hand it to her, though:  she looked absolutely stunning in that dress.  Great color and again, a necklace brilliantly deployed.

How about you?  I know you must have some favorites that I overlooked:  tell me about it in the comments, won’t you?
