The Golden Globes, Baby!

Do you look forward to awards season as much as I do?  Probably not!  There were lots of pretty good looking dudes and gorgeous women to be had last night during the Golden Globes.  What follows is a highly subjective view of some trends seen on the red carpet, as well as my favorite looks of the night.  Sorry, I left the guys out of it:  it can be done, but it is pretty hard to mess up a tuxedo.

You know you have a very strong trend on your hands if Sofia Vergara and Tilda Swinton show up in the same silhouette.  It was all about the mermaid last night.  This silhouette was in every color, and some wore it better than others, but Sofia and Tilda were my favorite examples of it.  However, I’m not sure I’d try this trend at home:  it’s an exaggerated form that many of us would find challenging to fit into, let alone walk in!

A big color trend was blush.  There were lots of gowns in varying shades, but Angelina Jolie highlighted her Atelier Versace dress with red lipstick, a red clutch, and a red folded collar on the dress and she looked beautiful.

Octavia Spencer looked fantastic in her dress of pale lilac, and Maya Rudolph was adorable in a simple black dress (with pockets!) that she also accessorized with a bright lip.  Another popular color was teal this side of green and Laura Dern’s long sleeved sequined number was especially lovely.

Evan Rachel Wood usually has a very Joan Crawford attitude (here’s she’s smiling sweetly, though) when it comes to the red carpet:  “That’s right, I look fabulous.  Bow down!”  I love it!  And I can’t leave out Helen Mirren, a woman who more often than not gets it so very right.

But I’m going to hand it to Jane Fonda:  she freakin’ brought it, didn’t she?

How about you?  Who were your favorites last night on the red carpet?
