The Grammys, baby!

Did I sound a little bit like Austin Powers there?  Sorry about that!

The award season is hitting its fever pitch, and the Grammys are as feverish as it gets:  it seems like anything goes at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.  If I ever have any illusions about my age, the Grammys always bring me down to earth:  I usually have no idea who half the people are!  Except last year, when Adele was everywhere.  And while it’s more fun to pick on what went wrong on the red carpet, I leave that to my illustrious gay uncles, Tom and Lorenzo:  you can read them here.

Onward:  here are my favorites of the night.

Talk about your sharp dressed man!

Truth be told, I have no idea who Nas is, but I learned last night he was nominated for a song with the late Amy Winehouse.  And I wanted to begin with a dude, because, unlike at the Oscars, these men know and like fashion and most of them looked fantastic.  Nas wears a gorgeous metallic coffee jacket by Bironi here.  I love the chain detail at the pocket, too.

She was the cutest thing last night!

Here’s another couple who remained unknown to me till last night, but I had to include Amber Rose because she looked absolutely adorable.  According to her, she’s about three weeks from her due date.  She’s glowing in Donna Karan, isn’t she?

Sans Machine.

Florence Welch knocked it out of the park in Givenchy.  She often wears these ethereal pastels, and while she doesn’t look bad in them, I thought this emerald was perfection on her.  Those alien-looking cones are reminiscent of the embellishment on Cate Blanchett’s much derided (but loved by me) Givenchy from the 2011 Oscars.

I'm pretty sure I heard all of your shout with joy over the COLOR.

I’m pretty sure I heard all of you shout with joy over the COLOR.

Look at our girl here!  You may argue with the print, but this Valentino showed us another stunning side of Adele.  The pattern is lovely and the shape perfect.  I don’t even mind the Attack from Planet B hair, or the matchy shoes:  you go on with your exuberant self!

She's really on a roll, isn't she?

But my favorite had to be Beyonce.  Loved that she showed up in pants, loved the black and white, loved the simple but stunning hair and makeup.  This is her year, people, and she looks like she’s ready for it.

All right, I know you’re out there:  let’s hear what your favorites were!

  1. Yes you hit the nail on the head, *shouts* COLOR for Adele!!!! While the style may not be a fav, I will give her credit for leaving the black behind. As for the hair, I am a full fledged member of “the bigger, the better” club lol.

I too appreciated Beyonce’s pantsuit. With all the hoopla she’s had of late, Inauguration, Super Bowl, and tour announcement, I can understand her just wanting to go low-key, yet chic!

In my list, I’d have to add Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra Couture. Her body is redic, and the cut-out dress showed it off perfectly.

    • Lydia, I went back and forth on Kelly Rowland’s dress: one minute, I loved it. I thought it was cut perfectly and was on the chic side of sexy. Then the next minute, I was all “WHAT?” :)
